Important Information regarding your Privacy
The Cooperative Research Centre for Australian Weed Management (Weeds CRC) has developed this Privacy Policy to demonstrate their commitment to protecting personal privacy and to comply with the 10 National Privacy Principles (NPP’s) as set out in the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000.
Personal information, collected in a business context is held in a combination of electronic and hard copy records stored securely at the Weeds CRC head office. Hard copy information is stored in secure office facilities, including locked filing cabinets at the Centre’s premises. The Centre’s database is maintained electronically and protected against misuse and unauthorised access by system design and internal access security procedures. The Centre will only collect information that is necessary, lawful, fair and unobtrusive, and to be used for the following purposes:
- Communicating progress made by the Centre in its Research, Education, Community and Commercialisation programs (Annual Report, Newsletters and other research publications etc).
- Publicising meetings and workshops being conducted under the general activities of the Centre.
Disclosure of Personal Information
The Weeds CRC will not disclose personal information held on its database to Third Parties without prior consent of the person(s) to whom the information pertains. Even where consent is obtained, the information will only be released to related organisations with similar objectives.
Collection of Personal Information
Personal information may be collected by the Centre when:
- A person attends a Centre function or activity
- A person expresses interest in the activities of the Centre, or its various communications including Annual Reports, Newsletters, Research Reports and website
- An exchange of information takes place in a collaborative or commercial context
The information referred to above will only be collected and maintained by the Centre if:
- It is necessary for the conduct of its activities
- It is collected and maintained lawfully
- It is collected with the consent of the person to whom it relates
The type of information collected will typically be no more than what appears on a normal business card. For Weeds CRC staff other standard administrative information may be recorded.
The purposes for which the Weeds CRC collects information is to inform stakeholders of relevant economic, environmental and social impacts and issues arising from our Research, Education, Community and Commercialisation Programs.
Collection of Sensitive Information
The Weeds CRC will not, under any circumstances, collect or maintain any information that is defined as 'sensitive information'.
Modification and/or removal of information
The Centre will ensure, as far as possible that the information maintained is kept current by:
- Periodic review of the database
- Seeking modifications or requests for deletion from the database with each mail out or other Centre communications
Access to personal information
Full disclosure of personal information maintained by the Centre will be made to the person who is the subject of the information, where possible, within 48 hours of the request. On request, you are welcome to view the information that we hold about you. If you know that any information we hold about you is incorrect, then please advise us. Following our authentication check, the Centre will take necessary action to correct it. If you do not consent to the Centre holding or using basic ‘business card’ type personal information for you, then please contact us at the address below or by email: crcweeds@waite.adelaide.edu.au

Definitions
Personal Information
Is defined as "information or an opinion (including information or an opinion forming part of a database) whether true or not, and whether recorded in a material form or not, about an individual whose identity is apparent or can reasonably be ascertained from the information or opinion"
Sensitive Information
Is defined as information or an opinion about an individual’s race or ethnic origin, political opinion, membership of political associations, religious beliefs or affiliations, philosophical beliefs, membership of professional or trade associations or trade union, sexual preferences or practices, or criminal record and health information about an individual.
